get your war on

"The only thing that could've been more botched would be if America had landed on the moon using a rocket that only flew one way- with a crew of 130,000 astronauts who then killed 10,000 innocent moon men."

Sorry I've been absent lately. Here's a little something for you to ponder:

"Nicholas Culpeper, the 17th century astrologer/physician, wrote in his famous herbal of 1652 that chickpeas are 'under the dominion of Venus, they are less windy than beans, but nourish more; they provoke urine, and are thought to increase sperm.'"

Harry Potter and the Polish Honey Vodka

Despite Evany's warning that the new Harry Potter movie is nothing like Y Tu Mama Tambien, Eli and I went to see it tonight, and what do you know? It was highly enjoyable. I had super low expectations- after all, the first two HPs were nothing but lengthy Saturday morning cartoons, forgotten in an instant, but this one had nice moments of dark humor, and aside from the werewolf, the special effects and the casting were good. (For some insane reason, I misremembered the casting of Ron Weasley's mother in the first one as Miranda Richardson. (seriously, wouldn't she have been hot? oh. I guess hotness isn't what they were after.)

After all the popcorn, the caramel-colored carbonated sugar beverage, and two and a half hours of entertainment, we couldn't bear to go home again, so we helped ourselves to a couple seats at a conveniently-timed showing of Shrek 2, which was about as fluffy as expected, and during which we drank a bit of Krupnik, which helped things get funnier. Getting stuck in the first row of seats was unfortunate, but after a few minutes, the motion sickness passed and I felt fine. Bad kids who sneak into movies shouldn't complain, it's true.

Kiki and Herb

As you can imagine, Kiki and Herb were just fabulous. The show was sold out, and the entire place was packed:

The show was... well, nearly three hours long, and quite frankly, my companions and I could have stayed for more, honey. Kiki had us both in stitches and in tears, and Herb- oh, Herb- without you, what would we do? I couldn't believe how quickly the time passed; we were all riveted to our seats (those of us fortunate enough to have seats).

Kiki, Herb, darlings, I have no idea if I was allowed to be taking pictures. I doubt it. But I love you, and I was a little tipsy, and the fact that these photos turned out at all (hand-held camera, no flash, zoom) is something of a miracle. In honor of Ethyl Eichelberger, and in memory of the now long defunct Eichelberger's, kindly allow me to post these here:
