in LA; dog-love; martinis- the short version, for now
we stayed up so late, even the dog slept in.
ha!
Greg said Spooge has been sulking and sad since Eric got Precious- she's a young dalmation and the center of the world at all times. So I've decided to lavish affection only on Spooge, at least most of the time. What's the point of being fairy godmother if you can't love up the one who needs it more? He's such an amazing dog. this morning we rolled around on the carpet, he licked my chin 40 times, and I rubbed his tummy for 10 minutes. we're very happy, and we're talking about eloping.
the weather is like a slightly warmer version of SF's, so far, only the haze is greyer. I couldn't be happier about that.
off to the Getty in my Final Girl shirt!

and also on that note
some of the best parental advice I've ever heard:
"You and your brother were both conceived with plenty of orgasms. You yourself deserve plenty as well. Have a beer."

yesterday morning the fog was thick, so thick that the Golden Gate Bridge was nearly invisible as I crossed it on the back of a red motorcycle. it was windy. I didn't mind.
brunch, mimosas, coffee; hands in someone else's pockets while zooming around windy roads in Marin; soaring turkey vultures and views of Mount Tam. certain trees are still blushing.
later, Kari and I went to see The Man on the Train, the latest film by Patrice Leconte. It's a slow, gorgeously filmed story that I can't get out of my head. the actors were superb.
afterwards, we picked up some spicy food from Yum Yum and feasted (in my cozy Eastern European kitchen) with a lovely bottle of rouge.
just after midnight we indulged in a little after-dinner pear brandy, and I was writing something down, when my kitchen table- actually, my whole kitchen- swayed gently for a few moments.
gentle reminders from the universe.
wheee!

Fool's Paradise is a very nice website I have linked to before, and I do so again because Magdalen Powers (who really does have a cool name) sent me a very nice email this morning instead of sending her copy-editor lawyers, or dogs, or rabid bunnies, to bust me for my sloppy-ass writing style...
my days of sloppy are over.
I swear, on my copy of The Transitive Vampire, I will reform.

the world is a beautiful place, after all...
an afternoon of drinking champagne in a sunny garden with fabulous people and kissy, kissy dogs.

early
I'm up early this morning, way too early, because the sun comes beaming in to my room at this time of year, and even wearing a sleep mask doesn't seem to work once I've opened my eyes. The sun becomes a permanent image behind my closed lids, and suddenly the birds' gentle chirping starts to sound more like TWEET, TWEET, the traffic noise suddenly is amplified, and then someone's car alarm goes off, and it's all over.
I've had overactive dreams in the last few nights- the kind that make you wonder what the hell you had for dinner the night before; the kind that almost make you grateful that your real life is here, and not there, because there seems like it would get pretty exhausting, what with all the running around and, well, I'm glad to be here, I think.
I have a lot on my mind these days, which could be another reason I'm up- the eyes open, the sun is shining brightly, and the brain goes immediately into nonsensical, sleepy overdrive. the unreliability of disappearing peoplefamilypolitics people with nomanners nointegrity whatwasthat nameI can'tremember thefacetho it was justtheotherday but I rememberhers from 13yearsagosoclearly sind es wirklich zehnjahren? dann sind's auch12 jahren seitdem ich ihn gesehen hab' warum schreibt er jetzt?
What soothes my brain at seven thirty on a Saturday morning? coffee and breakfast sound nice, but more sleeping would be better... maybe I can take a nap at nine.

who's surpri sed that I'm a double Gemini?
someone did my chart for me this week, and Much Has Been Explained. I haven't quite grasped all the information yet. that moon in Capricorn apparently keeps thumping me back to earth, and I think it's hurting my head...
